The "Geat Master" LAOTSU was master on no one, but only on himself, he did not create TAOISM, because TAOISM was way before him, 2000 years before Jesus CHRIST; transmited by ears n mouth by a long lineage of ANCIENT TAOISTS SHAMANS......Therefore LAOTSU did not create a religion, the TAO is not a religion, but a WAY that any religions, and non religious, can choose to take for the developpment of the best of selves...There is no GODS in the TAOISM, no prophets, the WAY appears to all those that do the efforts to make the first steps in IT. ALL those that try to make of TAOISM a religion, setting Gods and prophets over the people, even worse setting a clergy of some sort, them are all liars, deceiters, not friends of Humanity.
